The Challenge
The Crossroads Hospice Society needed to modernize its online presence to better serve families, volunteers, and donors. Their previous website was outdated, difficult to navigate, and not optimized for mobile devices. Key challenges included:
- Lack of user-friendly navigation for families seeking immediate help
- Limited visibility of volunteer opportunities and fundraising events
- Outdated design that did not reflect the organization’s compassionate, community-focused mission
Additionally, the society needed to improve their digital fundraising efforts and better highlight the volunteer opportunities that are critical to their operations.
The Solution
Rhino Marketing, now Steingate Advertising, worked closely with Crossroads Hospice Society to develop a new website that prioritized accessibility, clarity, and community engagement. Key elements of the solution included:
- User-Centered Design: A modern, mobile-responsive website with intuitive navigation to make information easily accessible to families in need.
- Resource Hub: A centralized platform for hospice-related resources, including guides for families, volunteers, and healthcare providers.
- Volunteer and Event Promotions: Enhanced visibility of volunteer opportunities and fundraising events to encourage community involvement.
- SEO Optimization: To improve discoverability, the website was optimized for search engines to ensure that families in need could easily find Crossroads’ services.
The website redesign provided Crossroads with a digital platform that aligned with their compassionate mission while helping to strengthen community ties.
The Process
The project began with a thorough discovery phase, including stakeholder interviews with Crossroads’ leadership team and volunteers. Rhino Marketing conducted a content audit to determine which information was most essential for families and which sections could be reorganized or simplified.
The design team focused on creating a warm, welcoming look and feel to reflect the society’s compassionate mission. Particular attention was paid to ensuring the site met accessibility standards so that visitors of all ages and abilities could easily navigate the platform.
A significant focus was placed on improving the volunteer recruitment process by creating clear calls to action and simplifying the application process. Additionally, fundraising events and donation options were made more prominent throughout the site to boost community support.
Doug Morneau’s Role
Doug Morneau played a key leadership role in the Crossroads Hospice Society as a Board Director from September 2008 to January 2012. During his time on the board, Doug actively supported the society’s mission and helped organize community fundraising events to raise awareness and funds for the hospice.
Doug has a long-standing passion for supporting charities and giving back to the community. His involvement with Crossroads was part of his broader commitment to supporting both local and international charitable organizations.
Doug shared the society’s belief in the value of “putting life into days, not days into life” and worked closely with other board members to ensure the society could continue to provide dignified end-of-life care to families in need.
The Results
The launch of the new website brought significant improvements to Crossroads’ online presence and community engagement:
- 40% increase in website traffic within the first six months
- Improved volunteer sign-ups through enhanced visibility and streamlined application processes
- Increased donations and fundraising participation as a result of clearer calls to action and improved event promotion
- Positive feedback from families and community members, who found the new site easier to use and more informative
The society was also able to better connect with volunteers and donors, strengthening their ability to provide crucial services to the community.
